Introduction
Ken Wasch, President, SIIA
8:15am - 9:30am Opening Keynote: The SPEED of Trust
Stephen MR Covey, CEO, CoveyLink Worldwide

The SPEED of Trust challenges the age-old assumption that trust is merely a soft, social virtue and instead demonstrates that trust is a hard-edged, economic driver—a learnable and measurable skill that makes organizations more profitable, people more promotable, and relationships more energizing. Stephen will speak on trust, leadership performance, and ethics in the world.

Desktop to Webtop Conference Block
Sponsored by Akamai Technologies
The migration from Desktop to WebTop is a result of recent innovations in today's Web-based applications that allow them to run almost as seamlessly as programs used on the desktop, with embedded audio, video, and drag-and-drop ease of use. New technologies are enabling a new WebTop that may one day replace your suite of desktop applications as well as support never before seen collaborative web services.

Content & Software Convergence and the Impact of Mobility

with Content Forum Attendees
Sponsored by Generate, Inc.
Lines are blurring between content and software...what is software vs. content....and now everyone faces the issue of how to do things differently to accommodate mobile devices. Are mobile devices such a paradigm shift that new content and software players will emerge that do not have a footprint in the pre, or non-mobile world? To try and divine the future a group of software and content strategists will discuss the following topics:
  • Have proprietary platforms gone from money producing differentiators to commodities? Can publishers continue to be pipe agnostic?
  • What is the state of business models as content and applications leap to the small screen?
  • How do needs vary by vertical?
  • Where are content players going? How about software? And is there a convergence?
  • The desktop to web top idea? What would happen if you unplugged from the 'net? What does that mean for content providers?
  • What is the potential of content companies as technology competitors especially when the whole web gets stored on a flash drive?
Moderator:
Brian Vile, Vice President, Macrovision
Panelist:
Jeff Cutler, Chief Revenue Officer; Answers Corporation
Lior Nir, Director, Product Marketing, Nokia Enterprise Mobility
Software as a Service Conference Block: Strategic Insights 2007
Sponsored by OpSource
Traditional software models are breaking, virtual businesses are as real as the 'Net, and 6 billion customers around the world are up for grabs. In a revolution unparalleled since telecom deregulation, start-ups, tech titans, bankers and industry leaders are betting – big – that SaaS in all its permutations and the democritization of services are the new world order in which the customer rules. Who will thrive? Who will not? And – most importantly – why?
1:00pm -1:30pm Keynote Debate: SaaS Hyper-Growth Model or Hype
SaaS: Hyper growth model, long tail change agent, M&A darling and hyper-buzz... Beyond a delivery platform, does SaaS really matter to the customer? What are innovators and traditional players doing to maximize the new on-demand capacities of the Web to put the customer at the heart of every business and technology decision. Why does it matter? At polar ends of the SaaS debate, two of the industry's top influencers discuss the future of software and its time and place-shifting impact on the interaction between the customer, the vendor and services that afford any business unprecedented capacity to reach billions of people online to deliver customized services and give customers what they want, when they want it.

Moderator:

Michael Mankowski, Tier 1 Researchh

1:30pm - 2:15pm The Big Bang of SaaS: Strategic Change Agent or Just Another Service
Prominent business and software executives, financiers and thought leaders discuss the strategic impact of SaaS. Is SaaS simply a model for delivering software, or a change agent and a threat to business as we know it. How will its capacity to engage the user and service provider in real time challenge the way we define, organize and develop our business relationships? Once static, now highly dynamic, how will these services, delivered as software, evolve, grow, thrive or die within this brave new ecosystem?

Moderator:
Conor Halpin, CEO, LeCayla Technologies
Panelists:
Doug Alexander, Managing Director, Operations, ICG
Steve Lucas, Vice President of On Demand Software and Services, Business Objects
Bobby Napiltonia, SVP, Worldwide Channels and Alliances, Salesforce.com

2:15pm - 2:45pm Fireside Chat:
Back to the Future: Looking at the Next Version of SaaS

This session will attempt to gain insight into what users are looking for - as well as what they are actually getting - from SaaS. What is driving customers' adoption of SaaS? What solutions do users expect from SaaS providers that they don't expect from traditional ISVs? How are we fulfilling these expectations and how are we falling short? Where do we improve? What is next? What expectations for expanded, value-added services - beyond traditional software features & functions - should we prepare ourselves to deliver?

Moderator:
Ken Boasso, Co-founder, Keychain Logic
Panelists:
Beth Boettcher, Senior Manager, Customer Relationship Management, Accenture
Joe Demmler, VP of Marketing Operations, Salesforce.com

2:45pm - 3:15pm Break
Open Source Conference Block
Sponsored by Black Duck Software
Open source has grown rapidly in recent years, but there's still debate on how and where it can best be leveraged in business. Is it on the edge, running web pages and workgroup applications? Or is it moving to the core of the data center, hosting business critical functions? Most agree that open source software is ready for use in the enterprise, but are enterprises ready for open source?
3:15pm - 3:45pm Keynote: Building a Sustainable Open Source Business
Mårten Mickos, CEO, MySQL AB

Mårten Mickos will discuss the range and evolution of open source business models, their strengths and weaknesses and what it takes to build a business that is truly defensible. As open source becomes more prevalent in the industry it will attract more competition including well-funded startups and large closed-source vendors. How should customers and investors evaluate the long term prospects of open source companies? What actions can be taken to ensure the freedom of open source while still maintaining growth and profitability? How can an independent open source company thrive among such an environment? Examples will be used from the history of MySQL as well as other open source products.
3:45pm - 4:30pm Open Source as an Enterprise
This panel will explore the business models, benefits and risks of running the business on open source; the panel will also discuss the issues businesses and IT organizations must consider when introducing open source applications into their environments.

Moderator:
Raven Zachary, Open Source Research Director, The 451 Group
Panelists:
Mårten Mickos, CEO, MySQL AB
Kim Polese, CEO, SpikeSource, Inc.
Mark Tolliver, CEO, Palamida

4:30pm - 5:00pm Open Source as a Development Platform
Open source is turning the traditional development model on its head. Closed development, long product cycles, "not invented here syndrome" - all are increasingly becoming things of the past. The cost advantages and the quality of community-developed software development are putting significant pressure on conventional proprietary software development. At the same time, open source doesn't lend itself well to all software sectors. The panel will explore the technical and cultural implications that come with collaborative open source development practices, and how companies need to adapt their processes to incorporate open source practices into their development cycles. It will explore where open source makes sense, and where hybrid open source/proprietary approaches will continue to prevail.

Introduction

8:30am - 9:15am
Keynote: The Strategy Paradox
Why committing to success leads to failure [and what to do about it]
Michael Raynor, author of The Strategy Paradox

The forces transforming the software industry will likely demand radically different strategies for success, but what kind of different? And when? Bold action seems a prerequisite of success, yet who is to say that these seemingly incipient seismic shifts will happen now, or in the way we anticipate? But surely doing nothing can't be the right answer, either. How can software companies take seriously the uncertainty of tomorrow without abandoning the need to act today? The answer lies in a new approach to managing strategic uncertainty that preserves the competitive benefits of commitment while simultaneously creating the flexibility needed to cope with unpredictable change and inevitable surprises. Going beyond simple "adaptability" or "agility," true strategic flexibility requires a fundamentally new understanding of the role of senior management and a redefinition of the strategic conversation.
